Information for freshmen

Hello dear freshmen!

Welcome to the Bachelor's program in Business Chemistry. We are looking forward to welcoming you to the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf for the winter semester 2022/23.

On this page you will find helpful hints on how to best start your studies in Business Chemistry.

At the beginning of your studies, many things are probably new and unfamiliar. We know that all too well. That's why we, the Student Council of Business Chemistry, would like to accompany and help you at the beginning of your studies.

Before the start of the semester

Even before the first lectures, the ESAG takes place. There you will receive information about your studies and get to know the university and your fellow students better. For example, you can expect a campus tour, an evening in the old town and a campus rally. You will find the exact dates on this page in the near future.

During the ESAG, you will not only have the opportunity to get to know your future fellow students, but you will also receive helpful tips on studying from students of higher semesters (e.g. activation of the HHU ID, registration for events and exams, as well as the use of the HHU Card).

Have the courage to approach other students, especially in the first few days. At the beginning of the semester, everyone is new, which makes it easier to get in touch. This way you can already get to know interesting people during the ESAG, with whom you will spend a lot of time together during the lectures or while studying.

In addition, we offer orientation tutorials (O-Tutorials) for you during the semester.  There you will receive information from your O-Tutorial leader about important topics in the first semester, e.g. preparation of the timetable, training for the laboratory internship and tips for the first exams. Furthermore, the O-Tutorium Leader will share their knowledge and experience with you so that your semester runs successfully.  The O-Tutorial is therefore the perfect contact partner for questions and problems during the first semester. The dates of the orientation tutorials will be announced after the beginning of the semester.

For a good networking within your semester please join the Facebook and WhatsApp group. You can find the links at the end of this page. At inter-semester events you have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students from higher semesters.  Please check here or on our social media to make sure you don't miss anything.

The university also offers other courses, e.g. refresher courses for a successful start to your studies.

The participation is voluntary. Experience has shown that the refresher courses in physics and mathematics are particularly helpful. The online bridge course in mathematics, which can be taken at any time, is also helpful for refreshing knowledge of mathematics.

Furthermore, the HHU-Ersti-Guide-App can make the start into your studies easier.

We look forward to meeting you in person during the ESAG!

During the semester

The best basis for a successful study is the regular and active attendance of lectures.

Despite the necessary actions to contain the Corona pandemic, classes with attendance shall continue to be offered at HHU in the upcoming winter semester. You will receive concrete information about this from the responsible lecturer or here on the Corona info page.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We will be happy to help you!
