The degree programme is completed with a final thesis, which can be purely chemically or economically oriented or deal with topics at the interface of business administration and chemistry.

Business administration
Theses can be written under an examiner appointed by the examination board of the Faculty of Economic Sciences. This includes the professors of the chairs and the DICE, the junior professors as well as appointed examiners from other faculties. The topic of the bachelor's or master's thesis must be taken from one of the examination subjects represented in the Faculty of Economic Sciences in accordance with the provisions of the currently valid examination regulations. It can be submitted by any examiner responsible for the subject in accordance with the examination regulations. The chairs of the Faculty of Economic Sciences can be found here. Chemistry
Theses can be written with an examiner appointed by the Examination Committee of the Scientific Institution of Chemistry. The topic of the bachelor's or master's thesis must be taken from one of the examination subjects represented in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in accordance with the provisions of the examination regulations valid at the time. It may be submitted by any examiner responsible for the subject in accordance with the examination regulations. The chairs of chemistry can be found here

In addition, it makes sense to attend the event "Chemistry in the Village", which usually takes place in December. The aim of this event is to help students to make the important choice of their focus and to get to know the different working groups and their research activities. To this end, staff members of the various working groups present individual aspects of their research activities in 10-minute short talks. During the breaks and at the end of the day, students have the opportunity to ask for further information from the lecturers and staff in conversation outside the lecture hall.

Bachelor 
The bachelor's thesis must be submitted no later than 12 weeks after the issue of the topic. In exceptional cases, the examination board may extend the processing time by up to four weeks upon justified application. The time directly associated with the Bachelor's thesis should be approx. nine full weeks in accordance with the value of 12 credit points. The topic and assignment must be formulated in such a way that this time requirement can be met. The written length of the bachelor's thesis should not be less than 25 pages and not exceed 40 pages. 

Master
The master's thesis must be submitted no later than 18 weeks after the issue of the topic. In exceptional cases, the examination board may extend the processing time by up to six weeks upon justified application. The time directly associated with the master's thesis should amount to approx. 15 full weeks in accordance with the value of 20 credit points. The topic and assignment must be formulated in such a way that this time requirement can be met. The written length of the master's thesis should not be less than 40 pages and not exceed 60 pages. 

In principle, this question should be answered with "yes" and clarified with the relevant chair.

However, please note the following formal and linguistic regulations: A company cannot assign a thesis. It can only be assigned by a faculty or chair and the supervising reviewer. However, this can lead to a practical or even company-related topic, which is worked out in close cooperation or at the company.

A thesis that has been accepted with a grade of "sufficient" (4.0) or better cannot be repeated. A thesis that has been assessed as "not sufficient" and is thus deemed not to have been accepted may be repeated once. A second repetition is excluded.
The application for the topic for the repetition of the thesis must be submitted no later than three months after sending the notification in which the candidate was informed of the assessment of the non-accepted thesis.

The qualification module, which is assessed with six ECTS, is completed before the bachelor thesis and is an ungraded module. In the qualification module, students should deepen their thematic-methodical knowledge in the subject area in which the bachelor thesis is to be written. Therefore, it should be chosen from the subject area of the bachelor thesis. Students may only choose one qualification module within the scope of their bachelor's degree programme. The topic should primarily be taken from the area of the qualification module.
